Good ol' descent into the seiyuu pit of despair

Yes, hi, hello, it's me!

I've gone on a wild downward spiral again, this time back into the anime & manga hole I thought I had mostly escaped from. Oh well. I like it here.

It all started with The Kiss Bet, which is a DANG adorable Webtoon. It has a cute art style and made me remember how much I miss reading comics, especially manga.

So I binged several of my old favourites. Takane to Hana; Kuzumi-kun, Kuuki Yometemasu Ka? and Gekkan Shoujo Nozaki-kun to name a few. Many made me stay up way too late, just reading.

Meanwhile (not sure how the timeline went lol) I finished some of the anime that aired this summer, like Boku no Kokoro no Yabai Yatsu and Houkago Insomnia. While scrolling through the definitely legal site I watched them on, I saw Horimiya: Piece, which I actually still haven't watched, BUT it did make me finally watch Horimiya.

That's where this whole thing exploded properly.

I watched the other mentioned series somewhat casually, in a gentle kid of binge if that makes sense. Easy to stop at a reasonable time and go to bed.

Horimiya was mostly the same, but it had a catch.

A supporting character, Sengoku, was voiced by Nobuhiko Okamoto. And a minor character, Yanagi, by Jun Fukuyama.

Both are at the top of my voice actor (seiyuu) list.

Which is why I am back here today.

This part specifically absolutely destroyed me:

Okamoto is known for his super loud and angry and energetic roles like Nishinoya from Haikyuu!! and Bakugou from Boku no Hero Academia, so this one was such a whiplash. He's so soft?? Calm and gentle and shy???? I have replayed this scene so many times already lol.

I watched like 10 seconds and EUGH I love this man and his voice so much. His vocal chords are made of magic.

This dude was one of two main factors in me finally watching Ansatsu Kyoshitsu aka Assassination Classroom, more on the other reason in a bit. And this show got an aggressive binge. Stayed up late, started immediately after coming from work, the usual.

Anyway, yes, Okamoto voiced one of the main characters in the show. A smug and crazy lil prick. Here's a clip that made me squirm in my seat. I was watching this in public, btw.

This guy, Karma, was an absolute highlight of this show. Not the main reason I watched it, though.

May I introduce you to Koro-sensei's voice, Mr. Jun Fukuyama, my seiyuu #1 forever and ever, the reason I've watched several shows and spent money and A LOT OF time on a particular mobile game I'll get to soon.

The last clip is from the dub so I don't care about that but!! I love this guy so much!!!!!! He's an absolute delight, going from menacing to adorable and from a mess into a caring teacher.

So yes, I binged this show so fast because two of my favourite seiyuus were in it. Okamoto is in a lot of shows I've seen, but Fukuyama is a rarer treat, kind of? Both have a long list of roles they've done though.

His voice is so deep and cool yet he often does these boisterous and silly characters! I haven't watched Chuunibyou demo Koi ga Shitai! in YEARS, but this clip lives in my head rent free:

Like???? I am not physically capable of watching this without grinning?? I love his voice so much!! A similar one is Takanashi from Working! aka Wagnaria! but I don't wanna get clips from that rn. (He has a similar reaction when he catches feelings and starts bashing his head against the nearest hard surface. 10/10.)

Was supposed to have more examples but alas, Blogger has a video limit. I edited a whole 2 minute clip of how Prince Raj got his pride damaged in Akagami no Shirayukihime's first episode but y'all gotta live without that now. Couldn't find anything on YT either, it's all dub stuff.

Anyway, with all that out of the way, let's get to his most recent ovary destruction role.

Vyn Richter from Tears of Themis.

As previously stated, I know Fukuyama from his roles as silly and dramatic characters who like to yell a lot. Vyn is so different from what I'm used to, but you will NOT find me complaining.

He's a calm and composed psychologist (psychiatrist? whatever lol) who's SO sweet and SO soft and gentle and I love him, I just need to see him blush. Dude's so very composed. He also illogically falls for MC at first sight/meeting. Soff idiot.

Ah, right. Tears of Themis is made by the Genshin Impact people, and it's a combination of a dating sim/visual novel and a genuinely intriguing detective story. You solve murders, debate, analyze arguments and crime scenes and earn stuff to open side stories where you woo these four super cool anime dudes I can't choose a favourite from. And the main reason I got into this game is the cast.

3 out of the 4 characters are voiced by my favourites.

No Okamoto sadly, but we got Jun Fukuyama as Vyn as previously mentioned...

And Yuki Kaji as Luke Pearce! Dude's a perfect combination of cute childhood friend and cool detective energies. I love this idiot so much. He gets embarrassed stutters so often, it's adorable <33

Kaji has a lot of roles, my favs being Kenma from Haikyuu!! and Nishikata from Karakai Jouzu no Takagi-san. He also does both calm and wild roles <3

Also Kaito Ishikawa as Marius von Hagen! He's the VA of my dear Kageyama from Haikyuu!! and also Genos from One Punch Man. Super cool, but does silly dudes so very well. Marius is such a sneaky lil prick, and Ishikawa's voice is perfect for him <33 He constantly teases MC and she's so tired of him and his shenanigans xDD

The funny thing is the 4th dude:

I rarely dislike voice actors, but I have said in the past that I despise this seiyuu, Junichi Suwabe. Not because of the guy himself, but I just know him as those super flirty and slick haired "come here my little kitten" anime dudes who gross me out. Here, however, I actually like him lol.

Artem Wing is the main character's boss who is so in love with her!! He blushes so much!! He tries to watch romance tv shows so he can take notes!! The game has a card collection aspect and I think I have Artem cards the most, so I see him a lot.

And I have spent A LOT of time on this game. I stay up past my usual bedtime, go to work sleep deprived, and continue playing as soon as I get home. I'm so good at this adulting and self control stuff.

Okay, this isn't a game review (or is it?) so I'll try to get back to the topic at hand.

I've mentioned several voice actors in many of the old posts here, so me being into seiyuu stuff isn't technically anything new in this blog. Sometimes I just get so into it that I watch entire series because of the voice actors in them lol. Like,  I went to watch the snail racing movie Turbo in 2013 just cuz I liked his Finnish VA, Petrus Kähkönen. He was the super cool Tennessee Kid Cooper in Sly 4 and captured me immediately xD

Right, I do know many Finnish and English VAs too, of course. I grew up watching Finnish dubs of tv shows and movies, so I picked up a lot of voices I can still recognize. (You don't want to consume any kind of Finnish media with me - no radio, tv, movies or ads at least. I will point people out OR get mad if they sound familiar but I can't put my finger on it.)

Since learning English, however, I've grown to dislike the Finnish dubs, and after getting a bit older, I moved from always watching English dubs to preferring things in whatever the original language is. Usually it's Japanese. Some anime series have good dubs, like Ouran High School Host Club, but I am a proud member of the "only subs please" gang. I will die on this hill.

I do appreciate dubbing, don't get me wrong. I would be a completely different person if I didn't have access to Finnish dubs of my favourite games, movies and cartoons. I'm thankful, but will almost always prefer the original versions.

It might just be that if I had to list VAs in all three languages, the English list might be the shortest. Might, I'm not sure and I am too lazy to actually make a list. Off the top of my head I can definitely list more Japanese VAs though. Not sure how Finnish ranks.

All this talk is making it seem like I know Japanese. It's just the usual anime stuff, really. Reading the translations in Tears of Themis is a lot of fun though! The English and Japanese aren't always exactly the same, and I love comparing things whenever I hear words or phrases I recognize! Makes me feel smart :>

Most of the VAs I recognize are men (cuz I am straight and VERY WEAK), but a lot of the women I recognize are Finnish. Japanese voices are often so high I can't tell the difference. Or maybe I just don't care cuz I have so much ear candy with the men lol.

Okayyy another simp post

 Hello again, it's been a while :)

I've mostly wasted my time with Animal Crossing (the dlc stole the rest of 2021), but there was one proper simp period and although it's mostly passed I still wanted to write about it ✌🏻😁

I got a digibox and checked out a cartoon series I've never really cared about.. Turtles. The newest, Rise of The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, aired in Finland on a free channel (still is, they're replaying S1 back to back for some reason), and so it began...

I started mid season, the episode called 'purple jacket' which focused on Donnie, but since it was dubbed I didn't really have a good first impression. The art style got me interested though so I looked it up and.. binged the entire series in a few days :) It was really good!

I tend to get attached to (read: crush on) characters really easily sooooo I had a field day with this one. Yeah, they might be humanoid turtles but the personalities were still really cool. (The designs were somehow really good looking too but that feels weird to say.. The artists definitely knew what they were doing though, especially in the 'clothes don't make the turtle' episode where they made poses in different outfits, I mean come on! We're gonna crush on them if you do that! I don't even care about muscles but these boys made me rethink that! Why do they have pecs?!)

Aaaaaanyway, I did like all of them, first Mikey was my fav but at some point I really started to like Donnie and Leo more. They both have great one liners I would quote more if I actually spoke English lol :D

I don't even know how many times I've watched the same yt clips of these boys lol. Why they gotta be so iconic?? Donnie's smug theatre kid flamboyance, Leo's crazy-but-still-smooth attitude, Mikey's cool but childlike positivity and Raph's tough but huggable teddybear energy?? This show took me by storm 🙈

Also, the voice actors! I only knew two of them, Leo (movie Sonic and 2017 Ducktales Dewey) and Donnie (101 Dalmatian Street Dylan) and both did a GREAT job! Mikey's probably the only character who can say stuff like 'yeah baby' and make me still like him, idk what the va does but it's so cute?? Raph didn't do the same but I still really liked his voice, deep and raspy :3

At some point I did binge about 3 seasons of the 2012 series and though it was different, I still liked most of it. Leo and Karai were cute until the reveal, Donnie was both cringe and cute with his crush and I didn't get to see Mikey with the time wizard lady and Raph with Mona, I did check some vids tho. I think my favs in 2012 tmnt were Raph and Leo, they were both so coooool also they really did Mikey dirty here 🙄 The kraang were kinda interesting, can't wait to see them in the rottmnt movie! Also, I definitely prefer rottmmt April over 2012, she's so cooooool and has a great va, too!

Hmmmmmm I did end up in the fandom as well, Tumblr has gotten more familiar for some reason 🙃 Great fanart, cute lil comics and fanfics, gosh the fanfics. I never knew what a turtle's stomach was called, now I do. Plastron. Probs not very comfy but neither are bones and I've spent too long reading undertale fics to really care about that anymore. It is still kind of weird if you really stop to think about it buuuuuut what ya gonna do, I ain't gonna go smooch a turtle or a skeleton outside of fiction lol

I think that was most of it... I just write whatever comes to mind, I hope it's somewhat understandable 😅

I don't think it's gonna get as bad but recently I've been seeing and watching a lot of fnaf stuff, especially about the new game, Security Breach. I still haven't watched a full playthrough (a couple eps from Mark but got bored I guess?) but Jack's playing it now and I'm following that. Aaanyway, Glamrock Freddy is dad, not daddy, and sun/moondrop is fun and has a cool voice.

 Uhm... hello? I am here to expose myself again so welcome! lol

Anyway, I have once again lost myself into the depths of a fandom. After my Sonic craziness slowed down to a ''normal and healthy'' level that casual fans have, I lived a normal life until BOOM!! Undertale happened.

I have watched a few let's plays but this downfall started from casually listening to the OST, I love the music in both Undertale and Deltarune. Idk what really happened but now I am active on Tumblr and I completely blame that site for all of.. this. I have become a skeleton fangirl. What even is life anymore. The rest of the post is about Undertale but I just want to mention that I absolutely love Lancer from Deltarune. Sweet precious child. Plump baby boy <3

I tried to stop a few times and distance myself from all Undertale related stuff cuz I was uncomfortable with, well, thinking that skeletons can be cute and some people talked about necrophilia and stuff so I NOPED out (There is some nice content in this fandom but I did have to block some tags on Tumblr and I wish I could do the same on other sites as well, I don't want to see any kind of cest, thank you) but then I talked myself into casually watching some cute brotherly animations and songs and... oops. I found the Undertale Musical though and it made me realize just how much I love imitating voices so that's a plus! I love to sing Papyrus' songs in the car and do the talking parts as well!

Anyway, to the embarrassing part. It sounds weird but I have been spending.. maybe a few hours... reading Undertale fanfiction. It has all been SFW so I'm not too ashamed to admit this but still. (I have seen the tags and descriptions of some Explicit-rated fics on AO3 and GOSH NOPE NO THANKS) Thankfully the writers are nice and tag all the stuff that can make people uncomfortable so I have successfully avoided the no-zone. Only fluff, no smut, thank you.

At first the number of AUs terrified me, but now that I have spent a few months in the fandom I am familiar with the most important ones. There are like 400 of them so this is enough for me, lol. The original UT is great, I love the bros <3 Paps is such a sweetheart and Sans... let's just say that I liked puns before Undertale and now I do even more. He's cute, lazy bones and all.

Underfell is probably the second one I got to know. I'm still learning to like Paps but gosh do I love Sans! I am a sucker for the ''playboy/tough guy who actually falls in love'' stuff so hnnnnnnn the lad is adorable. My fav characters are those who blush a lot so.. yeah. (he should sometimes wash his mouth, though) Some writers write Paps really well, too, so it's not like I hate him. I just tend to like the Sanses more lol

Underswap. Gosh. US Paps is pretty cool, I like how he's usually more awkward than UT Sans and gosh, the soft 'nyeheh' laugh is ADORABLE. US Sans is my fav of these two though, he's such a cutie! <3 UT Paps is already such a sweetheart and that plus Sans' cute lil face and bandana and the blue blush AND STAR EYES so yeah..he's great.

Hmm.. swapfell? There are so many versions of this (swapfell, fellswap, swapfell red and violet/purple, fellswap gold... I don't know) but I like the purple one the most. How cute is that the tiny dude blushes purple?! There is the mutt/m'lord dynamic with Sans being a ''tiny tyrant'' and bossing his bro and others around but his portrayal changes a lot depending on the artist/writer. I like the ''suave gentleman but cold and calculating'' Sans the best. Gosh, my heart. Not too fond of the flirty smoker/drug user Paps but sometimes he's cool. This Sans is one of my favourites, though! Bad guys are just attractive I guess (only digitally though, thank you very much, I prefer sweethearts irl)

Uh.. yeah. There are many more, like Horrortale, which is the original but.. a lil twisted. Famine n cannibalism and stuff which is veeery fun, but I love how the fandom writes the characters getting better and going to therapy so I am pretty familiar with this AU as well. One of my fav fics is actually HT so yay! (''Fur a Good Time, Call...'', it's great, Sans is such a goober, I love it) This might look bad, but I do not enjoy the violent part of these violent universes, I just want to see the edgy guys happy.

Oh! I almost forgot the special dudes? Ink is pretty cute, I read one fic which made me like him more (The Glitch) and I guess Error can be pretty cool too (when he's not destroying everything). I'm not too familiar with Dream and Nightmare. I also don't really care for the Gasters in any au, though Gaster Sans is okay. Oh, oh, Dancetale is nice as well! I do like me some dancing and Sans doing some nice breakdance moves is 10/10! Also, Handplates AU is pretty good, I watched the comic dub movies on YT and MY HEART BABY SANS AND PAPYRUS NEED HUGS.
